Dr. Gülkesen graduated from the English program at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine and is a Pathology specialist. She completed a master's in Medical Informatics at Akdeniz University and a PhD in Medical Informatics at METU. In 2003, she was a visiting researcher for three months at the University of Heidelberg Medical Informatics Department, and in 2017, she worked for one year as a Senior Researcher at the Peter L. Reichertz Institute of Medical Informatics in Germany.
As a co-founder, Senior Data Analyst, and System Analyst at the technopark company Myra Information Technologies, Dr. Gülkesen has contributed significantly to her field. She has also served as a national coordinator, researcher, and consultant in prominent European and international projects, including the EU Horizon 2020 and 7th Framework Program.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she provided consultancy for a WHO project on telehealth services. She served as an Assistant Editor for the Journal of Medical Systems for nine years. Additionally, she held various positions, including President, in the Medical Informatics Association, where she chaired two international and numerous national conferences.
Dr. Gülkesen teaches Clinical Decision Support Systems, Electronic Health Records, and Mobile Health courses in the Medical Informatics PhD program. She is proficient in English and has intermediate knowledge of German and Japanese. Furthermore, she is a Tai-chi and Qigong instructor.
