Dr. Songül Varlı graduated from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Yıldız Technical University in 1989. She received her master's degree in 1994 and her doctorate in 2001 from the same university's Department of Computer Engineering.
Dr. Varlı began her career at Yıldız Technical University in 1990 as a Research Assistant, became an Assistant Professor in 2002, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014. She earned the title of Professor in 2020 and has held roles such as Deputy Director of the Institute, Deputy Head of Department, and Chair of Division at various times.
In 2012, she worked as a visiting researcher at the Faculty of Engineering Design and Physics at Brunel University.
Dr. Varlı has authored over 30 articles in journals indexed in SCI, SSCI, and AHCI, along with more than 80 conference papers presented at national and international conferences. She has been involved in projects supported by organizations such as TÜBİTAK, and her research group on Computer Vision publishes its work on http://www.vision.yildiz.edu.tr/.
Dr. Varlı serves as a reviewer for journals such as IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, Neural Computing Letters, IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems, and Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computers. Her research interests include computer vision, biomedical image processing, artificial intelligence, and data mining.
She is currently serving as the President of the Turkish Institute for Health Data Research and Artificial Intelligence Applications.
